For No Reason (2022) is a multimedia installation made for the site-specific exhibition series Apple Thorne Project in a billiard hall in Berlin Mitte. A staircase leads from the entrance to upper rooms where monitors show the real-time feed of the surveillance camera at the entrance. Through manipulation of the surveillance system, staged fake footage of a fight, performed in the entrance hall a few days earlier for the exhibition, was mixed into the real feed, so that on the day of the exhibition the scene appeared to be happening live on the ground floor. Despite believing it was real, most visitors did not intervene, and those who went down felt the scene had only just ended. Relying not on actual presence but on the spread of a rumor, the work stages the tension between hyperreality and reality and lets the order of the image intrude, like a breaking of the fourth wall, into the order of the real.
